Most people who are not members of a straight chiropractic practice, such as mine, The Harte of Chiropractic, have a bizarre view of Chiropractic. (This most definitely includes many people in Marin who claim that they "really know Chiropractic.") Not their fault. Most chiropractors, to be blunt (sorry, it's a birth defect coming from New York) operate as a fancy version of something between a masseuse and a physical therapist.
It's fine being either a masseuse or a physical therapist. They should do what they do. A chiropractor should not do what they do. A chiropractor should practice Chiropractic. Obvious? No. Read on.
If you went to a cardiologist, and she gave you a haircut, would you call the process of haircutting "cardiology?" If a dermatologist came to your house to fix a broken pipe, would you call plumbing "dermatology?" Of course not.
Now, here's the rub. (Excused the pun.) So many chiropractors are confused, which has confused so many people that intelligent people don't know that what these confused chiropractors are doing is some drugless, low form of physical medicine. (A law almost passed in New Mexico, which would have given chiropractors the ability tom prescribe drugs. So, you can see that these lower forms of chiropractors actually crave the power to prescribe drugs, to be considered RD's, "real doctors.")
Treating back or neck pain, or any kind of pain, is not Chiropractic. Treating anything is not Chiropractic. Correcting the cause (the name of this blog), adjusting to remove Vertebral Subluxation Complex, to allow the body to heal and function at a higher level... That is Chiropractic.
Massage therapy, while it is very nice, should not be in a chiropractic office. Nor should pain glop like BioFreeze, or cold lasers or that modern incarnation of the medieval rack, the disk decompression table. Then there are the chiropractors who, believe it or not, never really learned how to adjust, and so, are afraid to adjust. They tend to use weird instruments that vibrate the spine.
Get the real thing... Gentle, specific, scientific chiropractic adjustments.
