Depression During the Holidays, viewed by Corte Madera Chiropractor

Some people tend toward the depressive side of things. When things are not right, family-wise or relationship-wise, the Holidays often deepen these feelings.

So, what's a chiropractor doing talking about depression? Do I treat depression? No! (I don't treat backache either.) What I deal with, as a straight chiropractor, is the nervous system. I adjust to correct interference (subluxation) to that system.

Contrary to what many think, the brain is not isolated in a box, the skull. It is, of course, part of the nervous system. The brain is contiguous with the cord and the nerves. Any interference, any torsion, anywhere in the spinal column, will effect the brain. Additionally, any interference to other organs will effect metabolism, which will effect the brain.

Instead of going on the made-up theory of "biochemical imbalance" as a cause of mental illness such as depression, and taking dangerous drugs in an absurd effort at balance, why not just do what makes sense? Correct interference to the nervous system. Then, the nervous system, including the brain, is free to work better.

No, getting adjusted does not change the problems that may surround you. But, it may help you deal with those problems, and put a smile on your face. Then, there's all the singing, dancing toys in my office and all the happy people.

Marin Runners with Knee Pain

How many serious runners are plagued with knee pain? Well, how many runners are serious, plus many who are not.

What do you do? Most take Advil or Tylenol, which only covers up the pain. Take enough of that stuff, long enough, and you end up damaging your liver, kidneys and stomach. And, by interfering with the natural process of inflammation, these anti-inflammatories cause increased damage to injured joints, especially as you continue to run. You think you're OK when you pop some pills that killed the pain? Think again!

You might, after a time, go see an orthopedist. After all kinds of allegedly definitive, scientific tests, you will receive some useless diagnosis, and probably be given stronger anti-inflammatory drugs, which will "work better," at least for a time, and end up doing even more damage to joints and organs. You might be directed to waste time at physical therapy. Eventually, the orthopedist will be sharpening his or her scalpel. These days, they are prone to just tear the whole knee out, and put in a fake one. Aside from the horrendous cost in pain, time and money, do you really think that this fake knee will be equivalent to a real one. (I know you got the standard "bone-on'bone" talk. It's, for the most part, BS.) Realize that these things wear out in seven or eight years; then, it's time for another replacement. This whole thing is barbaric!

If you have knee pain, the rational course of action would be to get to the cause. First, Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) must be corrected. This will allow the knee and the whole lower extremity to function right, and to heal, as well as increase coordination and balance, and improve your gait. This is standard in straight Chiropractic. Further, in my practice, I check and adjust extremities as well as the spine. So, I would check, and adjust as necessary, the bones of your knee, and your meniscus (and your other knee), hips, and feet. Doesn't that make sense?

Dr Harte: Making a Healthy Marin Sick

I just sent this as an op ed to the Marin IJ:

TRYING TO MAKE A HEALTHY MARIN SICK?

The recent column by Jason Eberhart-Phillips, M.D., Marin’s Public Health Officer (“To Parents who skip kids’ vaccinations”), condemns, even belittles Marin parents who dare think for themselves, and act in the best interests of their children (as opposed to the interests of the State). It is the medical party line, more representative of a state religion rather than science. His comments are girded by his certainty that the State knows better than the parent, and that the State has the right, or should have the right, to force whatever medical measures they choose upon children, and, indeed, adults. The party line is even reflected in IJ headlines. The second page headline (for the article in question) is “Taking chances,” alluding that non-vaccinating parents are not responsible. Back in September, when I faced off against Dr. Eberhart-Phillips at the Marin Board of Supervisors meeting, the headline was “County: Students should have inoculation chance.” That was never the issue. Kids should have a chance at real health, which does not come from the artificially-induced, abnormal  immune responses that vaccinations produce.

The issue here is vaccination, and the numbers/percentages of parents who utilize the “personal belief exemption,” or PBE, which Dr. Eberhart-Phillips decries. Statewide, the PBE rate for incoming kindergarteners is now 2.3%. Marin has the highest rate of health sanity, of PBE, of 7.2%. So, Marin parents are way ahead of the curve, seeing the limitations and the dangers of serial vaccination. Here, a growing number of parents are open enough to see past the medical party line, and willing to buck authority in order to protect the health of their children. It is the children who get vaccinated who are truly at risk.

Vaccination, especially serial vaccination (up to 71 vaccinations before kindergarten), causes a state of chronic inflammation, often in the brain where it is referred to as encephalitis (often low-level.) While some may still assume that vaccination is scientific, safe and effective, we have seen the health of children devastated in the last two generations. Autism, various learning disabilities, Type I diabetes, juvenile arthritis, asthma… once rare, have become commonplace. The ONLY thing that has changed in those two generations is that the number of vaccinations has increased several-fold. Besides questionable biological material, vaccines contains a witch’s brew of known toxic substances… aluminum, mercury, formaldehyde, latex, phenoxyethanol (anti-freeze), glutaraldehyde… Many of these substances are directly neurotoxic, so why is it so hard to figure out the autism connection? What about sub-clinical physical and mental losses? You still think that vaccination is scientific? What can possibly be scientific, or logical, or even reasonable, about poisoning children to get them healthy?

We all have immune systems, which receive control and coordination from the nervous system. Chiropractors appreciate that health only comes from the inside-out. Correct interference to the control and coordination of the body by the nervous system, and the body becomes healthier. This is different, and far superior to fighting, or even preventing disease. The fact that more parents in Marin are saying “no” to Big Brother in a White Coat,” rejecting serial vaccination, is a cause for joy. Some even have sense enough to bring their kids in for regular wellness chiropractic care. Maybe Dr. Eberhart-Phillips would like to regulate that, too.

A long time ago, Thomas Jefferson wrote: “If people let government decide what foods to eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.”

Chiropractic Pretenders according to Corte Madera Dr Harte

Pretenders? No, I'm not talking about the allopathic (medically-oriented) chiropractors who chase simple back pain relief instead of saving lives through the correction of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). Not their turn today.

I am speaking about other fields that pretend to offer what Chiropractic offers, presumably cheaper. Massage? Relaxing and nice, but it corrects nothing. Yoga? Good stuff. It has been practiced for a very long time. Yes, it is good for you, but it has nothing to do with the correction of VSC.

Then, there's the physical therapist's, who seek to stabilize a subluxated joint. Why would you want a wrong thing stabilized? Medically accepted? Insurance reimburseable? Sure, but doesn't that tell the story? It has nothing to do with Chiropractic.

Then, there's the Pilates fanatics and some personal trainer fanatics. Do they do good stuff for people? Undoubtedly. But they, like Rolfing, come from the conception that muscles and fascia are responsible for holding up the body. (PT's get into this as well.) Muscles are end-organs, like the heart or the kidneys. They do what they're told... no more, no less. If a muscle or a joint is getting an altered nerve supply due to VSC, that VSC MUST be corrected by a chiropractic adjustment. That muscle or joint will never operate properly until that happens.

PLUS, all of these well-meaning but confused folks, focused on muscles, and, for the most part, pain, have totally forgotten about the bulk of nervous system function, which is the control and coordination of every cell, tissue, organ and system in the body. Oops!

Only Chiropractic corrects THE #1 health risk factor... Vertebral Subluxation Complex.

Personality Change, Mental Illness and Chiropractic, by Dr Harte, Corte Madera

I love seeing people getting well and staying well under chiropractic care. (This is real... straight chiropractic care, as opposed to the neck and back pain third-rate physical medicine model.)

I truly love seeing personality changes, big and small, as we correct interference to the nervous system, Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). Small? Well, I'm not really talking mental illness here. Some people just never really smile. They're chronically cranky. Others are would tight as a drum. Sometimes I have to tell them that rigor mortis is only allowed after you're dead. Anyway, it still amazes me how these folks loosen up, smile, relax and seem to finally enjoy life. Even those in extreme stress situations begin to handle that stress better, less destructively. This is so nice to see!

Then there are the people come in with real mental disorders, most on serious psychotropic drugs... anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, anti-psychotics, and sometimes anti-convulsants. Many have been able to throw their drugs away.

Way back in the 20's, 30's and 40's, there were chiropractic mental hospitals. People came out... functional... in 63% of the cases, vs. 5% out of the medical facilities.

Are you wondering how this works? Well, the mind is in the brain. The brain is contiguous with the cord and the nerves. Any stress from subluxation anywhere in the spine can effect the brain. (The most critical areas are the upper cervical region, the top two vertebrae, and the opposite end, the coccyx, or tailbone. Most chiropractors do not analyze and adjust the coccyx.) So, you get adjusted, removing stress from the nervous system. Doesn't it make perfect sense that people under chiropractic care often see dramatic changes in this realm? And the only side effect is better physical health!

Goldilocks as Physiologist, Recognized by Corte Madera Chiropractor Dr Harte

"Goldilocks understood it. Not too much, not too little, but just right."  - Dean Black, Ph.D.

Every parent has read "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" to their kids. Those who aren't parents, reach back into your memory as a young child.

You'll remember that the first bowl of porridge was too hot. The next one was too cold. The next one was just right. When Goldilocks thought it was time to have a nap, the first bed was too hard, the second was too soft, and the third was just right.

Physiology... the study of the body's functions. People tend to think of problems... disease... in terms to lack... too little. Well, sometimes that's true. A low functioning thyroid will leave you weak, slow and prone to gaining weight. But, then, a high functioning thyroid will cause you to be anxious, unable to sleep, to think, etc. Either hypo (too low) or hyper (too high) functioning is a pathological state. Who knows what is the right level for your thyroid... your doctor, the lab?

What about blood sugar? Too low is a problem. So is too high. The same is true of blood pressure, or just about any bodily function that you could name. So what you need, for the many, many functions of your body, is "just right." Now "just right' is different from person to person. "Just right" is even different for you, from day to day, and sometimes from moment to moment.

So... who knows what is "just right?" The Doctor, the specialist, the lab? No. They think they know. They do not, they cannot know, for the reasons given above. Your Innate Intelligence knows. It is charged with working the body, powering the body, coordinating the body, in a "just right" fashion. If you have  Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC), the full expression of your Innate Intelligence will be interfered with, so that you may have functions that are "too hot" or "too cold."

The medical approach? Every drug hyper's the hypo and hypo's the hyper. Blood pressure too high? There are drugs to force it down to "lab normals." Too low? There are drugs for that, too. Thyroid too low? They give you fake thyroid hormones to bring your levels up to "lab normal." Too high? They'll cut your thyroid out.

The chiropractic approach? I adjust to correct VSC, allowing normal function... not too much, not too little, but just right.

Which approach is safer? Which makes more sense?

Vertebral Subluxation Comes From... by Marin/Larkspur/Greenbrae Chiropractor Dr Harte

CHILDBIRTH (Physical): Any "assisted" birth, caesarian as well as vaginal birth. Generally the worst traumas result from forceps or vacuum extraction assistance, prolonged labor.
                        Traumatic childbirth can result in:
                                    1. Stillbirth
                                    2. SIDS
                                    3. Massive Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC)

CHEMICAL: 1. Pollution:  Air, water, including industrial and military exposures
                        2. Food additives: NutraSweet, Splenda, MSG, etc.
                        3. Drugs, legal and illegal, over-the-counter and prescription, including vaccines

MENTAL:              Stress!!!

PHYSICAL:

            Childhood:
                        1. Falling off the changing table
                        2. Learning to stand and walk
                        3. General play
                        4. Sports injuries: Gymnastics, ballet, soccer, football, martial arts, basketball
                        5. Falling out of trees, off skateboards, off bicycles, off horses, etc.
                        6. Fighting with siblings and friends
                        7. Sloppy posture
                        8. Auto accidents
                        9. VSC causes more VSC!

            Adulthood:
                        1. Falls, jars, slips
                        2. Auto accidents
                        3. Sports injuries
                        4. Occupational hazards and habits
                        5. Housework
                        6. Pregnancy
                        7. VSC causes more VSC

VSC, BEGINNING IN YOUR EARLY CHILDHOOD,
RE-OCCURRING OVER YOUR LIFETIME,
DIMINISHES YOUR HEALTH AND
YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE.

Kentfield/Corte Madera Chiropractor Dr Harte Upon Hearing "There's nothing wrong with me!"

A common foolishness, that really gets under my skin, is when people say to me "There's nothing wrong with me. I'm healthy." They may have heart disease, diabetes, depression, constipation. They are probably taking many medications, both prescription and over-the-counter. They often walk bent over, to one degree or another, with some sort of abnormal gait. They have probably had several surgeries in the past, and may have more planned for the near future. Their day-to-day activities and capabilities are diminishing, both physically and mentally. Yet, they claim to be healthy. The craziest version of this that I have heard? "I'm healthy, except for my cancer."

Do they think that they are healthy because The Doctor told them? To quote what our mothers told us when we were kids: "If your friend told you to jump off a building, would you do that?" Well, given the absurdly dangerous drugs that The Doctor tells them to take, "jumping off a building" isn't so far-fetched. The basic problem here is that so many people have abrogated all thinking/ reasoning in the realm of "health care" to The Doctor. THINK! How can you call yourself healthy, living on dangerous chemicals on a daily basis, getting parts cut out, and losing functionality?

I look back to when my father was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 40. The Doctor told him "Don't worry, Fred. Diabetes is the healthy man's disease." Really? Is that why my father died at 53? Is that why diabetes is one of the major killers? What my father's doctor said is downright stupid. My father's acceptance of that was, also, downright stupid. Yes, you as a lay person, a non-member of the medical priesthood, have the responsibility to think for yourselves. Parents! You have the responsibility to think for your children.

So, what is health? Dorland's Medical Dictionary defines health as "a state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Webster's:  "A condition of wholeness, in which all of the organs are functioning at 100%, all of the time."

How different is this from what you were lead to believe? Read these definitions again, and think on them!

So, health means 100% function. You want function? Then you need a nervous system unfettered by Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). You want that? You come see me for lifetime, wellness chiropractic care.

Dr Harte on "The Grateful Dead," Cancer and Chiropractic

Recently, I was watching a YouTube interview of an oncologist (cancer specialist) who had "gone off the reservation." In other words, he had a holistic or natural outlook. (I sent this link out on my Facebook HARTE OF HEALTH page.  Missed it? Maybe make a habit of checking out the page regularly. And please contribute to the conversation.)

If my memory serves me, his name was Dr. Gonzalez. He talked about his orthodox oncology residency at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York. He said that the standard chemotherapy, radiation and surgery generally didn't work, so people died. (He said that doubters should hang out at the basement door in the back of the hospital where the bodies come out every day.)

Dr. Gonzalez noted a very odd thing in the attitude of surviving loved ones. Despite obvious failure, they were grateful to the doctors and the hospital. (I'd like to see someone grateful to a chiropractor when they didn't get positive results.) He said that in each room in Sloan-Kettering, some 600+ rooms, there was a plaque, "In loving memory of..." He called this phenomenon "The Grateful Dead."

Stop and think how odd it is that people not only accept but even acknowledge Medicine for stuff that clearly doesn't work. This is not only for cancer. This is equally true for people with mental disorders, heart disease, auto-immune disorders, COPD, Alzheimer's, arthritis, urinary disorders, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diabetes, liver disorders, severe spinal problems, etc. People commonly accept "you have to live with it," that they have to live on drugs for the rest of their lives, drugs that do not heal; they only maintain a slowly declining state of health. They love their tests. They love their diagnoses. They love their drugs. They are even proud of their surgeries, as if they cut themselves open. (This was a Japanese custom in days gone by, called "seppuku," but the intent was definitely NOT therapeutic.) And they love their hospitals, and oh, they love their doctors. When they pass away, their loved ones carry on this madness... the Grateful Dead.

How can you NOT see that Medicine, in its intent and in its practical application, does not work, and never will? (I will exempt Emergency Medicine here.) They, the MD's, the nurses, the techs, mean well, but that is not enough.

How can you not seek beyond what clearly doesn't work?

How can you not realize that only the body's own Innate Intelligence heals itself? Chiropractic corrects interference (VSC) to the expression of your Innate Intelligence, allowing you to heal, allowing your body and mind to express your potential. Perhaps this is too simple for people to understand.

If you understand this, call me. Let's set up your critical first appointment.

"Chiropractic Fraud" Declares Marin Chiropractor Dr Harte

The problem of chiropractors trying to ape medical doctors, to the point to trying to be medical doctors, has long been a growing problem. From the symbolic (the white coats) to the practical, the degeneration of what should be the correction of nerve interference, actual Chiropractic, to third-rate physical medical care of low back pain, this has confused and cheated society. Many chiropractors these days do not even have the proper skills to adjust the spine by hand.

Perhaps the most deviant of all of the chiropractic colleges is National College of Health Sciences (notice that they took "Chiropractic" out of their name). They are now going ahead with issuing a D.C.M. degree, a "Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine."  This is out-and-out fraud on an institutional level.

Chiropractic is a separate and distinct profession. It is not a part or a subset of Medicine, nor is it, in any way, alternative, natural or complementary medicine. Medicine is the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Chiropractic concerns itself with health. It corrects interference with the expression of health, Vertebral Subluxation Complex, allowing one to express more health, more life.

Do not accept fake or fraudulent chiropractic. If you want Medicine, go to a medical doctor. If you want Chiropractic, go to a chiropractor.

I left med school to become a chiropractor. I will not sit idly by while my beloved profession is co-opted by charlatans in white coats.
