People get diseases easily enough. They don't need, and certainly don't want help in this.
The age-old question is "Where does disease come from?' Or, more to the point, "Why am I sick?"
I won't go through all of the silly answers to these questions that the medical profession regularly provides. But I do present to you the question that Dr. D. D. Palmer, the Father of Chiropractic, asked of himself:
"I desired to know why one person was ailing and his associate, eating at the same table, working in the same shop, at the same bench, was not. Why? What difference was there in two persons that caused one to have various diseases and while his partner escaped?"
The DIFFERENCE was, and is subluxation... interference to the nervous system, the master system, causing dysfunction. You see, you have to have dis-ease before you have disease.
Subluxation comes from three causes, physical, chemical and emotional. Yes, the latter two causes can literally move vertebrae into a subluxated state. It's not just physical cause.
Now that we've got that squared away, what do I mean by "trickle-up disease?" Well, Medicine is the diagnosis and treatment of disease. What about the myriad weird and dangerous chemicals that "Modern" Medicine subjects the unsuspecting populace (YOU) to? Look up any drug, and you will see side effects. In fact, Dr. Ely Lilly, of the famous Ely Lilly Pharmaceuticals, said: "Show me a drug without side effects, and I will tell you that that is not a drug."
Of special concern are the many types of drugs that people are put on for years, often for life... drugs to treat diabetes, depression, anxiety, bi-polar, asthma, etc. Some of these drugs are allegedly "preventative," like the blood thinners, and those for high blood pressure.
Of even more concern to any thinking and informed individual is the obscene quantity of vaccinations that children receive these days. Massive amounts of toxic substances dumped into children's bloodstreams, on a serial basis. "Trickling up," is the mass occurences of autism, ADHD and other learning disabilities, Type I (juvenile) diabetes, juvenile arthritis, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome. I predict that incidences of cancer of various sorts will skyrocket at earlier and earlier ages.
Why not eliminate what is causing the subluxation, which is causing the disease and suffering? If you still think that a drug is safe because the FDA approved it, or because The Doctor said so, think again. It is time to start thinking.
Your life, and those around you, depend upon you thinking, and coming to some rational conclusions about where disease comes from. No need to seek it out, is there?
What are YOUR thoughts?

Chiropractor Attacked at Greenbrae Gas Station
Last Saturday, I tried to do a good deed. I pulled into a gas station to fill up. I noticed in the car on the opposite side of the pumps was a car with two women, one of whom was wearing a cervical (neck) collar. That usually represents a very dumb form of medical treatment for whiplash. This treatment not only doesn't help; it causes long-term muscle and ligamentous damage. And, of course, it does nothing for the massive amount of vertebral subluxation caused by the acceleration/deceleration on the neck.... thousands of pounds of force in milliseconds. Even a rear-end impact of 5, 6, 7 miles an hour will do serious damage.
{If you have ever been, or know anyone who'se ever been in any kind of automobile accident, there is subluxation aplenty. Get checked. get adjusted.}
Anyway, the other woman came out of the car to pump her gas. So, I graciously offered her my card, for her friend. Turned out to be her mother. She looked at the card as if it was a dead rat. She said "My mother would never go to a chiropractor. SHE HAS OSTEOPOROSIS. YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR MEDICAL FACTS FIRST BEFORE YOU SPEAK!!! YOU KNOW I GO TO THE WITCH DOCTOR ONCE IN A WHILE FOR MY SCIATICA. SO YOU SHOULD REALLY BE CAREFUL BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING."
{NOTE: Chiropractic adjustment, especially the light force kind that I employ, is NOT contra-indicated for osteoporosis. Probably half of my practice has it to some degree. Beyond normal loss of bone mass due to aging, it is a dysfunction of the parathyroid glands, which regulate calcium. What if the nerve supply to those glands, or related glands, is compromised by vertebral subluxation? What will correct this, other than chiropractic adjustment?}
That rant was just the warm-up. She saw my car and said: "Whew! Look at that car. I bet you ripped off a lot of people off to get that car. ALL YOU WITCH DOCTORS CARE ABOUT IS MONEY. IT'S TERRIBLE HOW YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OLD PEOPLE!!!" All the while getting louder and louder. (I guess she thinks M.D.'s, nurses, medical techs, hospitals, pharmacies and drug companies do it all for free.)
Then, it got weird. She asked a series of questions which I just didn't answer... "Do you believe in vaccinations? Well, do ya?" "What about universal health care?" "What do you think about Afganistan?"
Then she wanted my card, presumably to "report me," like a good psycho Nazi. I ignored her. She now thinks that I am "Dr. Sherman" because I was wearing my "Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic" shirt.
When I finished pumping my gas, and got my receipt, and got into my car, she stood in front of my car, continuing, loudly, to hurl insults. So I backed up and got out of there.
OK, she was a wacko. But how many people who YOU know have this very tendency, to automatically see the chiropractor as some low-life, predatory sleaze, who knows nothing and cares less about people? Probably dangerous, too. How many friends and family of yours think like this?
These same people do whatever The Doctor says. These deranged people believe that They (the PMG, the Pharmaceutical-Medical-Governmental Complex) know it all, and cure it all, and whatever they can't do or don't know now, the Cure is right around the corner. The hundreds of thousands of deaths from mistakes each year, the millions of side effects, the tens of millions of obvious clinical failures each year are never acknowledged.
Yes, I was attacked. Not physically, but verbally, spiritually. This wasn't the first time and it won't be the last, but it certainly was one of the most colorful incidents. These incidents will not prevent me from telling the Chiropractic Story to all who will listen. If I get 10 wackos, 20 wackos, and then one person listens and a life is saved from the ravages of Vertebral Subluxation, it's all worth it.
I know that you good people get attacked, too, for telling the Chiropractic Story. It's OK. Don't let the wackos get to you. Just imagine them in a straight jacket, with a tin foil hat. Would you take it to heart, then?
Since lives are at stake, both you and I have an obligation to speak. It would be nice if people were at least polite. It's tough. We are dealing with new knowledge... Chiropractic... based upon absolute biological fact that the nervous system runs everything, and that the body is a self-healing, self-regulating even self-perfecting mechanism that heals only from Above down, Inside-out. This new knowledge is up against a societally-entrenched cult... Medicine.
In the 16th century, Martin Luther was brought before a papal tribunal. he said: "Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. G-d help me."

Corte Madera Chiropractor Explains CANCER AND CHIROPRACTIC
I know that this is forbidden territory, "touching the third rail" of Chiropractic. I really don't care. I am here to spread the truth about the body's Innate Intelligence, and what Chiropractic is really about.
No, this is not a "claim" that Chiropractic cures cancer. Chiropractic doesn't cure anything, not even back pain. Chiropractors adjust to correct CAUSE, allowing the body to heal.
Should current cancer patients be under chiropractic care? YES!
Should "cancer survivors" be under chiropractic care? YES!
Should those who may get cancer in the future gert chiropractic care? YES!!!
Well, that just about covers everybody, doesn't it?
I know what you're thinking. "What could Chiropractic possibly have to do with cancer?" This confusion is not your fault. Fault lays at the feet of all of those chiropractors who treat simple back pain, using every gimmick in the book, without regard to health, not bothering to tell the Chiropractic Story. They are more interested in what the insurance companies will pay for.
Cancer is a long-term failure of the immune system. We all have cells that go nuts, and multiply at the expense of healthy cells... cancer. A healthy immune system, directed by a healthy nervous system, will find those cells and kill them, so that they do not develop in cancer as an actual disease.
If there is subluxation, interference to the immune system (this subluxation probably wouldn't hurt), the immune system can fall down on the job, allowing cancer to manifest. What if that subluxation is corrected? Won't that give the immune system a better opportunity to prevent cancer, or deal with cancer if it is there?
No, I am not telling people not to get medical treatment for cancer. That is a medical decision, which is yours alone. Whatever course you do take, will you be better off with less nerve interference? Might that increase your chances?
If you are a "cancer survivor," I am glad that your cancer has been successfully treated. BUT... what has not been attended to is WHY you got the cancer. So, it is important for you to get adjusted, allowing your immune system to function better.
If you are interested in NOT GETTING CANCER, might it be a good idea to do what you can to allow your immune system to function at its best?
One of our practice members is experiencing a relapse of a nasty form of leukemia. What if she came to me, or someone like me, 15, 20 years ago? I hope and pray that her immune system will come to the rescue in time. I am working as hard as I can, correcting her subluxations. That is all that I can do, but that alone is much. It is noteworthy that this fine, brave lady understands this.

Corte Madera Chiropractor Exposes the Human Cost of Poor Chiropractic
No, I am not talking about 100's of thousands of deaths a year. That is what happens from poor medical care. I am not talking about millions of people getting sicker and more disabled each year. That, too, is the province of Medicine. The human cost of poor, low-level Chiropractic is more subtle. But being closer to home, it infuriates me that much more.
Let me define what I mean by poor, low-level Chiropractic. Remember that Chiropractic is a Science, and Art and a Philosophy. When there are serious deficiencies in any or all of these aspects, then you have low level Chiropractic.
Philosophy first. Chiropractic is based upon the vitalistic, HOLISTIC philosophy that the body heals itself and regulated itself, from Above-down, Inside-out. Your own Innate Intelligence runs everything. When there is an interference to this running, in the form of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC), dysfunction occurs, leading to dis-ease, and eventually, disease. The mission of the chiropractor is the detection, analysis and coorection of VSC. We remove interference, and get out of the way. If you go to a chiropractor, or know someone going to a chiropractor, who is merely "treating" the low back pain according to the six visits allowed by the managed care company, well, you're not getting the real thing. If a chiropractor is doing physical therapy, like those idiotic disk decompression tables, or cold lasers, or various sorts of electrical stimulation, he or she is missing the point. A real chiropractor does not treat pain; he or she corrects interference... cause... allowing the body to heal. These low-level chiropractors? You will never hear them talk of subluxation, of Innate Intelligence. Thes things, which are the bedrock of Chiropractic, do not concern them.
Art. This is the actual adjusting. If a chiropractor is crude, unnecessarily non-specific, and tends to do the same adjustment, every time (and, if you ask around in that office, the same adjustment to everyone) this action ceases to be an adjustment. In its crudeness, and its lack of proper intent, it becomes a manipulation. Whole different thing!
Then there's the Science. If a chiropractor is not doing X-rays and neurological scans, and proper exams and re-exams, to actually evaluate VSC, where's the science? If he or she just cranks your back where you point to, that is noweher near Chiropractic. If you are not put on a plan of care, to begin to undo the years and decades of subluxation, if you are allowed or even encouraged to come in "when you need it," this is what I call Advil Chiropractic.
Advil Chiropractic is very expensive. Sure, you pay less that you would here, but what you get is virtually nothing. You will never get change like this. If anything, you will get some temporary relief. If if the chiropractor is relatively cheap, say $40 or $50 a visit, you can get the same result from popping a couple of Advil, at a cost of about 53 cents. (No, I am not recommending Advil.)
So, what IS the HUMAN COST OF POOR CHIROPRACTIC? Well, most people walk away from these experiences saying "I tried Chiropractic but it didn't work." Well, you went to a chiropractor, but you didn;t get Chiropractic. You got something else.
Those who get quick relief, and are happy with that, are unwilling to come to an office like mine to spend the time and money to free their nervous systems, allow their bodies to heal and to express more of their human potential... physically, mentally, socially. In the past, they've been ripped off, yet they think that I am trying to do that. No! I am delivering the real thing, straight Chiropractic.
So, these people will find one more low level chiropractor, and get manipulated, rubbed, gelled, electro-shocked, pulled, whatever, and never get their life-threatening Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) addressed. They will continue their spinal degeneration and their neurological degeneration. They will keep their old injuries and their old disease, which will worsen over time. They will continue to suffer from the devastating effects of taking their lifetime drugs, and getting surgery after surgery.
Those who fancy themselves as "alternative" may stay away, for a time, from the drugs and surgery, but their bodies will continue to deteriorate, sometime obviously, sometimes not, from the tragic effects of VSC.
Insist upon the real thing.

Corte Madera Chiropractor asks: "Is Diagnosis Dumb?
When I suggest chiropractic care to someone, and he or she retorts "Oh, I KNOW what's wrong with me," I ponder, for the millionth time, the cult-like hold that the dominant medical paradigm has on the drug-marinated populace.
This becomes worse as people become more and more trusting of technology, as if higher "tech" will create happiness, as if, in health care, the next "breakthrough" will solve their problems. The sheep-like assumption is that Medicine understands all there is to about the body, and it has all of the answers, except for those diseases and consitions for which They have pronounced that there is no answer. Like hypertension or diabetes, that "requires" a lifetime of medication, or ALS, that is "terminal."
The KNOWING of "what's wrong"... diagnosis, is, in reality, useless. To think that that "knowing" is all you need to know and to act upon is, well... not too sensible.
First off, more often than not, diagnoses are wrong. So, despite your "knowing what's wrong," you, and your doctor, are wrong. So, you will be treated for the wrong thing.
Then, most importantly, your medical treatment suppresses symptoms. It does not get you well. It does not address CAUSE... why you have what you have (no matter what you call it).
Only Chiropractic addresses CAUSE. We adjust to remove interference to your body functioning properly (VSC). Diagnosis, correct or incorrect, doesn;t come into play. Your own Innate Intelligence knows what to do. It's as simple as that!
So, you can go around wearing your diagnosis like some neurotic badge, or you can get well. Up to you.

When MD's flunk in the most obvious way
Here, I am not talking the real message, the real purpose of Chiropractic... the detection, analysis and correction of Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Yes, we help bad backs, too. Just so long as you understand that that is NOT the main thing. It's a nice side effect.
When I meet someone who, for many years, is in such pain, so bent over, and too weak and frail to send to the emergency room, I think to myself, "Where is the ethics of his or her M.D.?" They have got to know that a chiropractor could help. Yet, they keep this person, deteriorating over many years, and keep the truth from them. This is despicable. At the very least, it's just plain stupid.
Occasionally I will hear some cretin saying that some chiropractor kept someone from needed medical care. What happens in real life, most of the time, is the opposite of that.
And, of course, there is the general snobby distaste of M.D.'s and their staunch followers for anything and anyone non-medical. I have said it before, and I must say it again. This is racism in the scientific arena.
What to do? Look at who's safe and who's not. Look at who actually gets results, and who offers excuses. THINK! And remember that your body belongs to you, not The Doctor.

#100: "Is Chiropractic good for...?"
I cannot count the number of times that I have been asked "Is Chiropractic good for arthritis/ rotator cuff/ herniated disks/ stenosis/ hormonal problems/ asthma/ migraines/ thyroid problems/ digestive issues... ?"
The answer... to all of these... is that Chiropractic is "good for" everything because it is not specifically for anything. Huh? Yes, I know that this runs counter to how you've been trained by our crazy allopathic ("against disease" or medically-oriented) society... led by the much vaunted institution known as Modern Medicine.
Here's the big difference between THEM and US. They, Medicine, diagnose and treat. In other words, they name your disease or condition, and attack it, or often just manage it. They may sometimes look for triggering factors (like doughnuts with diabetes, or smoking with emphasema or lung cancer), but they do not look at the underlying cause.
Specific? Medicine has gotten more and more specific over the years, with the rise of specialists. But remember what Dr. BJ Palmer said: "The specialist is one who knows more and more about less and less." Everyone goes home with a shiny diagnosis that allegedly explains everything, including, often, that this requires a lifetime of drugs for management, and it will get worse over time. In the more neurotic, that diagnosis comes with bragging rights. (Being from New York, I really know about this.)
With the specificity of Medicine comes a certain feeling of comfort, figuring that the Doctor really KNOWS.
Why is the chiropractor smarter than the M.D.? Because the chiropractor knows what he or she DOESN'T KNOW. The chiropractor knows that your Innate Intelligence KNOWS more than all of the doctors of all kinds put together. It is the force that united sperm with egg. From one cell, you multiplied and multiplied, and differentiated and grew into a baby, then into an adult consisting of between 25 and 40 quadrillion cells, all perfectly formed and functioning... unless there is interference.
Vertebral Subluxation Complex is interference to your Innate Intelligence expressing itself fully. Chiropractic adjustments correct Vertebral Subluxation Complex. You Innate is then free to "diagnose" and to "treat," far more skillfully, far more accurately, than the best specialists.
So, if you come in with diabetes, I will not treat you diabetes, or your pancreas. I correct interference, and get out of the way. Same thing with sciatica. Same thing with depression. Or a bad hip. Therefore, chiropractors neither diagnose nor treat.
No matter what you "have," no matter what your health condition is, no matter your age, you will be better off with less Vertebral Subluxation Complex... less interference, than more. Under Chiropractic care, you will express more life, more potential.
So, what is Chiropractic "good for?" Life!

Corte Madera Chiropractor Dares to say: AUTISM RESEARCH FRAUD: Is Medical Non-Science Destroying Young Lives
On the question of autism causation, I wonder if the powerful special interest consortium, whom I refer to as the PMG (Pharmaceutical-Medical-Governmental) Complex, is testing just how far it can go with creating false direction utilizing research that is blatantly irrelevant. Some of this research, surveyed as the cover story of the current issue of the journal, “Neuron,” talks of one thing that we already knew, that males are more susceptible. These studies talk of “de novo events”… mutations, which are “ultrarare,” and are more plentiful in autistic than non-autistic children. OK. This means that the autistic kids have been damaged. We know this, too. This does not answer the real question, “Damaged by what?” Media’s coverage, and the common assumption, is just that “it’s genetic.” This answers nothing!
I know the knee-jerk reaction of many… Modern Medicine IS Science Medicine has done so much for society. Medicine can do no wrong. This mind-set goes on to, automatically, declare anyone who dares criticize or present truly alternative thinking as just plain nuts. As an expert in biological common sense, as a chiropractor for 30 years, I am used to being labeled a “quack” by mindless medical sheep. Scientific racism.
Fact: Autism, a terribly tragic affliction, has gone from being virtually unknown to now affecting one in 110 children in this country. (When you hear the popular “We can diagnose better now,” just stop and think how obvious autism is.) The emotional costs to its victims and their families are incalculable. What about the financial costs? Especially in these harsh economic times, associated costs can easily bankrupt a family. The escalating costs to insurance companies, to government health agencies, and to the public school system may very well play a large role in bringing down the whole system. Think… a lifelong disease, often with total disability, beginning in early childhood, occurring at skyrocketing rates.
From the first whispers of possible genetic causation (of autism), I knew two things. (1) The medical research industry will be gearing up for a massive infusion of work, influence and cash, to chase something that cannot be found. (2) The entire PMG Complex will go anywhere, say anything, do anything, to protect the “holy water” of their (unscientific) cult… vaccination. Yes, this is “CYA,” just like in politics. This has all the grace of Congressman Weiner, with infinitely more societal damage.
This genetic “tilting at windmills” is easy to sell to an adoring public who awaits the next medical “miracles.” Here’s scientific fact for you. Genetic diseases are stable within the population, over time. The human genome has not been radically altered in the last two generations. So, the genetic causation theory of autism is patently wrong, so wrong that, in my view, it demonstrated the (medical) gullibility of society.
The other group of autism causation-pushers are the environmental crowd, claiming it must be something in the environment, some kind of mass poisoning. Well, they are right, but not in the way that they imagine. The ultimate environment is within the body itself. If you pollute it, on a serial basis, beginning at birth, and continuing throughout childhood, there has got to be serious consequences. When at least some of those pollutants are specifically neurotoxic (aluminum, mercury, MSG, formaldehyde), how can you not expect brain damage? As the number of vaccines, and the number of doses rose, so did autism. The state of New Jersey has the highest autism rate, one in 90. They also have the highest number of mandated vaccinations.
Want to save the health of children and reduce a massive financial burden that is crushing both families and the whole system? Take a very important step to correct interference to the function of your child’s immune system. Get him or her under regular wellness chiropractic care. (This is not a substitute for vaccination. This is totally different.) “The best immune system is in the body, not in a lab.” - Clarence Gonstead, D.C.

Do Drugs and Surgery Make You Healthy?
Fess up to it... Deep down, you think that drugs and surgery make you healthy. Isn't that why people go for "health care"... to get healthy? Well...
Time to think... deeply... boys and girls... about your innermost thought about disease, health, the body, Medicine, Chiropractic.
If drugs and surgeries get you healthy, than the people who take the most drugs and have the most surgeries are the healthiest, right? No. Just last Sunday, a very illuminating article came out in the New York Times about the extreme amount of side effects of drugs these days. Check it out.
If you cut your finger, it will heal, without any knowledge of the very complex cascade of biochemical events that cause clotting and healing. No matter. Your Innate Intelligence knows what do do.
Now, what happens if you cut the finger of a dead guy? Will there be any healing? WHY NOT? There is no Innate Intelligence. There is no life. The difference between you and the dead guy is that you are alive. NOTE that even if you give the dead guy drugs, or do surgery (stitches), there will be no healing.
Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) takes away from your full expression of life. Adjustments correct VSC, allowing better expression of life. Chiropractic does this for you. Drugs and/or surgery cannot.

The Fallacy of "Fast, Fast Relief"
Yesterday, at a seminar, I heard a really stupid thing from one of the speakers. he said that chiropractors have to get people well in a few visits; otherwise they won't come back.
The first bad thing is somehow linking clinical strategy with business. Wrong!
What does that mean, to "get people well?" It is obvious to me that, in this allopathic (medically-oriented) chiropractor's thinking, some measure of pain relief. WRONG! Pain relief is NOT the intent of Chiropractic. The intent is the correction of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC), allowing the body to express itself properly and healthfully. Pain relief is a nice side effect.
For a chiropractor to have the intent of mere pain relief is to, in my opinion, be a failure and a fraud, for it is the duty of the chiropractor to detect and correct Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). To provide "fast, fast relief" is a rip-off. Even if your chiropractor is very cheap, say $40 a visit, you can get the same relief for 53 cents of Advil. That's why I call them "Advil chiropractors."
Just pain relief? Then your chiropractor is leaving you with life-diminishing, perhaps life-threatening VSC. This is a clear abbrogation of clinical duty.
Why do so many chiropractors just do pain relief these days? Lack of proper education, lack of self-esteem, etc. A big factor is that these chiropractors purposely degrade and pervert Chiropractic in order to get paid by insurance companies who are, properly, medically-oriented institutions.
Insist upon the real thing... straight Chiropractic. If you, or someone you know, is going to the chiropractor "when you need it," that is expensive pain relief. Call me, and find out about the real thing, and how it can and will change your life.

Popularly Accepted
"The problem with common sense is that it's not that common." - Mark Twain
Here's ample proof. Here's crazy stuff... talk about health and disease, that you have heard people say innumerable times. Maybe even you?
"Well, everybody knows that...
"... there's nothing anyone can do for XYZ disease/condition."
"... once you have hypertension/diabetes/gout/depression, you have to take ABC drug for life."
"... you really can't help anyone my age."
"... MY doctor knows what's best for me."
"... MY specialist has done all of the latest tests."
"... My specialist is a top man/woman... the best at Stanford/UCSF..."
"... Modern Medicine really knows everything about health, and what They don't know, They will find out soon."
"... chiropractors aren't really doctors."
"... chiropractors are quacks."
As to the last one, that's why I keep my one-eyed Pennsylvania duck in the front. Hey, if I'm a quack because my profession isn't responsible for millions of side effects and hundreds of thousands of deaths a year, so be it.
What is "popularly accepted" often has no bearing to truth or reality. Look back on the truly absurd history of Medicine. Very recently, drugs like Vioxx and Avandia were all the rage. Now, they're the rage for class action attorneys working for the families of victims. Lobotomies... insulin shock... drugs of mercury and arsenic. Back in 16th century England, MD's diagnosed by astrology. The cure, then, for any ailment of the eyes was to blow desicated dog dung into the eyes.
Funny, since 1895, Chiropractic hasn't really changed. It is still based upon correcting interference to the nervous system, to the expression of Innate Intelligence, in the form of Vertebral Subluxation. Why not much change? Chiropractic is based upon biological law, which does not change.
It is time for Chiropractic to be popularly accepted, and the faddism, the dangers, the foolishness of Medicine to be questioned.
