Not too many years ago, I might speak to someone who had spinal surgery maybe a few times a year. And joint replacements were a rarity. Now, I hear of probably 10-15 surgeries a week from people that I talk to, on either them or someone that they know. I don't have actual statistics, but it has become obvious that orthopedic surgery has become an epidemic.
It is obvious to me that they are operating on lesser and lesser conditions, upon younger and younger people, which necessitates repeat surgeries to fix previous mistakes and to replace worn-out surgical appliances. One of the many crazy things about this is that the victims of this pseudo-scientific barbarism, even if they have been severely damaged, take pride in their procedures. Weird.
The talk of the expense of the so-called "health care crisis" (really this is sick care) going nuts is contradictory to people complaining about lack of "access." Hey, we have far too much access to all of this damaging stuff. Expense? It seems that just about everyone is getting cut up, and put on a variety of drugs forever... at what benefit??? Of course this costs a ton of money.
Do we need to spend more money, for more "access?" No. This is madness. You will not get health from the Outside (drugs, surgeries)-in. Health only comes from Above-down, Inside-out. That's why you go to the chiropractor, to get and stay well, and to stay as far away from drugs and surgeries as possible.

Surgeons Gone Wild notes Dr Harte, Marin Chiropractor
Have you noticed that so many people are getting surgery lately, especially spinal surgery and joint replacement? Are the orthopedists having a sale, or have they replicated themselves like bacteria and they're all out looking for work, looking for someone to cut?
It is interesting that, at the same time, more and more people are getting cortisone shots in their joints? Sure, this sometimes gives good pain relief, but it is a deal with the Medical Devil. It also cause massive destruction in the joint, that is already damaged. Could this be "foreplay" for all the surgery?
With the exception of an unstable fracture or perhaps an invasive tumor, you gotta be nuts to let those yahoos in masks cut into your spine, or trade out your knee or hip for a fake one.
Forget their alleged scientific tests. Their science is phony and self-serving.
Rely on the experience of millions of years of evolution. Trust your Innate Intelligence to heal you, no matter what They say you have. get checked. Get adjusted.

Happy Corte Madera Chiropractic Story Ends Sadly in San Rafael
The strength of medical cultism always astounds me.
Some years ago, I took care of a man who was 84 years old, running his own company, in great shape, working out, playing several sets of tennis several times a week. I wished that I was as fit as he was.
Anyway, he comes to me with some back pain, and a diagnosis from his orthopedist, herniated disk. He is scheduled for spinal surgery in three months, but he wanted to "give this [Chiropractic] a chance."
He did very well, both objectively (my testing for Vertebral Subluxation Complex) ans subjectively, how he felt. Basically, he went from OK shape, to terrific. Then, for absolutely no reason, he actually went in for the surgery. He disappeared from the office.
I ran into him about two years later, on Fourth Street in San Rafael. He had aged decades! This formerly superbly fit and able man was all bent over with two canes, feeble in mind as well as body. A true medical tragedy/crime. Totally unnecessary!
If you know anyone considering spinal surgery, do WHATEVER YOU CAN to get them in here to get checked. Say nothing, and they will be butchered. Say something, and at least they will have an opportunity to avoid the butchering and get far healthier and happier, despite what The Doctor told them, wagging his MEDICAL VOODOO FINGER.
What do you think? Let me know. And let me know who you know that I can help.

Corte Madera Chiropractic Talks Back... Problems, Simple to Complex
It amazes me that, in this day, more and more people take their back problems to THE DOCTOR, who transfers them to the orthopedist. More and more submit to spinal surgery, which leads to more and more spinal surgery, and more and more problems.
I suppose this is good news for the makes of Oxycontin and other popular prescription pain relievers. I know, you've been tested, and given what seems like really scientific reasons why you have no choice. What you might do is stop and pose the simple question: Does this stuff work? In any other field of endeavor... getting your car fixed, plumbing, getting your spine adjusted... you would expect what you are doing, paying for, going through to work. Spinal surgery clearly does not in almost all cases. In many cases, it causes worse problems. You submit to the knife because the High Priest in the White Coat says so. Fugettaboutit. Use your head!
Back problems are NOT what Chiropractic is about. But most people still go to the chiropractor because of that, and most are successful. None end up with the kind of catastrophes that happen in the operating room. (Wanna compare malpractice rates?)
Going to a chiropractor if you have back pain should be obvious to all but the most medically-bigoted. You're getting vertebral subluxation corrected. That is CAUSE. The adjustment corrects cause. This is all so simple. Want somebody's bad back story? Obvious!
I know, there are all of those medical diagnoses/scare tactics, that people tend to adopt, as if they are the condition, and that only their doctor can handle it. Disk problems? So, chiropractors handle these all the time. And in my particular technique, I have the ability to adjust spinal disks, kinda like "surgery to go." "Spinal stenosis?" That is not something that you're born with, some deformity, which they lead you to believe. It is, for the most part, the inside-the-spinal-canal part of Subluxation Degeneration, which is your body's response to DECADES of Vertebral Subluxation. Why not correct the subluxation? Arthrtis? Degenerative Joint Disease? Again, the product of decades of subluxation.
You can get drugged for life, chopped on, or both. Or, you can get to the CAUSE... Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Besides dealing with the cause of pain, you can expect side effects of overall better health and vitality. Up to you.
Send this to everyone you know who is still bent over, doing the ridiculous orthopedic dance.

Why Does This Corte Madera Chiropractor Take care of Really Sick People
Do you still believe that drugs and surgery get you healthy? Then why are the people who take the most drugs, and have had the most surgery, the sickest? THINK ON THIS! I know, this is one of those obvious truths that most people miss.
People who are really sick are not unlucky. They are the most subluxated. There is a reason for the sickness. That reason, that cuase, must be addressed. This is something Medicine does not do.
What Medicine does do is test, guess (diagnose) and treat, test, guess and treat, ad infinitum. Very sick people, who have gone through a great deal of this, have accumulated so many side effects that those side effects can no longer be differentiated from their original condition(s). While the failure of their chosen system, Medicine, is obvious, their psychological attachment, even dependence upon Medicine becomes more and more entrenched.
This psychological dependence is contagious in a sense; it spreads to their family and friends. It becomes the topic of discussion within that circle, what this doctor and that specialist said and did, what my specialist says, what it says on WebMD, what my sister's niece, the first year nursing student says. Every test and procedure is awaited, like the next championship ball game.
When someone offers up some common sense, like coming to me to get checked for CAUSE, the claws and the fangs come out. It is truly amazing how ferociously people defend failure, and reject common sense.
Keep trying anyway. Tell them that Chiropractic is like gravity; whether you believe in ti or not, it works. Ask whoever is the ringleader if it's OK if I give them a call. Even better, sign them up for the email newsletter* and bring them along with you when you come in for an adjustment. You can show them that we don't have medieval racks and jars of eye of newt. You can introduce them to other members of the practice, and they can share their stories.
That very sick person may say "There's nothing that can be done for me. I'm too sick/too old/too far gone. Nobody can help me." "So," you might ask them, "how come you're still seeing you current specialists? Maybe something different might produce a different result. WHAT DO YOU THINK?"
Keep in mind that the sicker they are, the more likely they are to travel here from greater distances. A lot of chiropractors wouldn;t have the nerve to take care of who I take care of.

Herniated Disks, Medical Barbarism and Chiropractic Submission
Yes, I know. I make a big deal about Chiropractic NOT being about bad backs. True. The basic reason why (real... staright) chiropractors focus on the spine is because of its intimate relationship with the nervous system, the master system.
However, if one has serious back problems, then it is obvious that they have serious interference to their nervous systems... Vertebral Subluxation Complex... which is the proper focus of Chiropractic. So, nothing wrong with the person with a bad back seeking out chiropractic care. To not do so is just plain foolish. (To those who say "I don't believe in Chiropractic," your little prejudices do not change the laws of biology. Chiropractic, like gravity, works, whether you believe in it or not.)
The chiropractically uneducated will often consider going to a chiropractor in cases of simple back pain. What happens when it's really bad? They may "give the chiropractor a chance" by going in for a few visits, and then run off to the orthopedist, and get an MRI. In most cases, herniated disks will be found. Useless things like anti-inflammatory medication and/or physical therapy will be "tried." Then, the surgeon will sharpen his knife.
As I have discussed before, and what is plainly obvious, spinal surgery does not work. Many times, people end up worse, sometimes far worse. (It happened to my own father, a long time ago, before I even heard the word "Chiropractic.") Often, one surgery follow another, sometimes to such an obscene degree that the surgeon might as well put in a zipper! This is barbaric! To consider spinal surgery, except in very rare cases, is nuts!
Back to the hapless chiropractor. If the chiropractor is not competant, he or she becomes responsible for part of the push towards surgery. "I tried Chiropractic but it didn't work." Did the chiropractor do a proper work-up, including X-rays and neurological scans? Did the chiropractor present a robust enough plan of care? A few casual visits never works.
You may be wondering if chiropractioc adjustments can help "herniated disks." After all, "The Doctor said..." A disk doesn't just slip, or herniate. A disk is so affixed to the vertebra above and the vertebra below that, if you were pulled apart on a medieval rack (is that the predecessor of today's disk decompression tables?), your vertebrae would come apart before the disk would come off the bone. So, we adjust the bone.
As a special thing with my particular technique, I have the ability to adjust spinal disks directly. Kind of like "surgery to go."

Neurosurgeon's Orgy
One of my most dinstinguished and cherished Practice Members brought me in an article (3/29/11) from the Wall Street Journal: "Medicare Records Reveal Troubling Trail of Surgeries." One of his more abused patients has had six surgeries, and finally turned down #7.
The story is mostly devoted to a neurosurgeon in Texas who, habitually, does multiple spinal fusions, in a short period of time, on many of his patients. The article highlights some of the resulting suffering that this has caused. It was my impression that the underlying implication is that the government should more closely monitor what doctors are doing. But, on other fronts (not a subject of this article), there are legislative moves to limit medical malpractice.
With the exceptions of unstable fracture, some cases of invasive bone cancer, and some severe cases of infection, spinal surgery, and certainly spinal fusion, is an unnecessary, barbaric procedure.
That's right, I said "barbaric." People are cut open, exposed to the very significant dangers of anesthesia reaction and nocosomial (from the hospital) infection, parts of bone and disk cut out and sometimes weird surgical devices put in, with tools that you would expect in a (rough) carpentry shop.
Results? Almost everyone who undergoes spinal surgeries, and especially fusions, get worse, often terribly worse. This, of course, is the "in" for further surgeries. I knew a man in his 40's who had had eleven (11) spinal surgeries. His life was a wretched haze of drugs and pain.
Have you been threatened with spinal surgery, or know someone who has? Despite the medical "facts" presented to you, despite the wagging of the Medical Voodoo Finger, have the common sense to say "No!"
Continuing with common sense, it is time to get checked for Vertebral Subluxation Complex. (No the neurosurgeon doesn't know what that is, and, for sure, cannot do anything about it.
What do you think?

Astounding (?) Medical Discovery in Marin IJ
I just love when medical doctors make me laugh! And... I know that they have no idea how funny they are!
Yesterday, the Marin IJ had a full page ad announcing some sort of union of Mt. Tam Spine Center and the UCSF Dept. of Neurosurgery, called the "Spine and Brain Institute" of Marin General Hospital. The headline? "Our experts have your back. (And your brain.)"
Their big discovery? It seems that They (sic) are on the verge of figuring out the the spine actually effects the brain and the nervous system. They seem to be on the verge of saying that structure effects function. AMAZING!
But, those in the know (those under straight, wellness chiropractic care) know that the Founder of Chiropractic, Dr. D.D. Palmer, figured this out 115 years ago.
So, IN REALITY, whose on the cutting edge, and who has been out of it for over a century, attacking those who are on the cutting edge?
Got sense? Wanna be healthy? Get adjusted. Good advice whether you have back pain, or not. Whether you consider yourself healthy, or sick. Everyone needs a brain and a nervous system working as close to 100% as possible.
Don Harte, D.C.

PS: WARNING: Realize that these folks in the ad, this program, is, at its heart, a surgical game. In most all cases, having spinal surgery is a VERY poor choice. Most end up worse. Some MUCH worse.
